As the first full-time legal hire, the Head of Legal will be responsible for building and scaling the legal function from the ground up. This role requires a proactive and hands-on approach to establish frameworks, tooling, and operating norms that support rapid growth in a mission-driven SaaS company. The Head of Legal will act as a strategic partner to leadership across all departments, including Engineering, Product, Go-to-Market, People, and Finance, reporting directly to the CFO. This position involves serving as the primary owner of the company's legal stack, encompassing corporate governance, compliance, intellectual property, employment law, privacy, and litigation management. The Head of Legal will drive sensitive and high-impact matters, including litigation strategy, complex negotiations, and regulatory matters, while also architecting scalable systems and processes. Success in this role hinges on proactive risk identification, policy development, and a strong ability to anticipate and mitigate legal challenges, ensuring alignment with the company's mission and long-term goals.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and scale the legal function, establishing foundational systems, processes, and policies.
- Serve as the strategic lead on high-impact legal matters, including litigation, negotiations, and complex commercial agreements.
- Partner with Product and Engineering to ensure compliance and risk mitigation in new product development.
